Republic FC Drop Rhode Island, Third Kit on a Magical Night
Sacramento Republic FC dropped an audacious new third kit and hosted supporters for a Jaegermeister Cup watch party on Wednesday evening. The Quails ultimately rewarded us with a hard-fought victory, blanking Rhode Island in a penalty shootout and advancing to the cup final.

I arrived on foot, making my way from my office in the River District to catch the second half of the match. SRFC released more than a third kit, unveiling a whole new collection of merch in collaboration with AuthMade and Hummel. It’s like a collision of California hip hop and your weird uncle’s vintage Arena Football League jersey he got from Goodwill. I mean that in the best possible way. Being that I’m a middle-aged dad, I couldn’t immediately decide whether to attempt any of these looks, but judging by the response of people around me, the new swag received nothing but praise. Also, hats off to 428 J Street and whoever came up with the Kit Launch/Watch Party concept. I did not know that the building housing my favorite downtown coffee spot and the team store was hiding such a vibey event space.

Excitement generated by the release of a 1990s alternate-reality collection that the club described as a “creatively reimagined identity” filled the room with energy. There was a DJ, there were drinks, it was loud, it was stressful, and ultimately it was cathartic to watch SRFC pull off a classic cup victory. Also, I got to ink my own custom tote bag which was a delightful experience. If only Cal Expo security would let me in with it on Saturday. Oh yeah, one more thing … the boys will take the field in the ATTACK KIT against Phoenix.
