Republic FC Announces Tim Holt as President and General Manager
Sacramento Republic FC has made a significant front office move, naming veteran soccer executive Tim Holt as the club’s new President and General Manager.
Holt arrives with more than 25 years of experience across American soccer, with time spent both at the league level and inside club operations. For Sacramento, this is a hire that connects directly back to the club’s origins.
When Republic FC was awarded its USL franchise in 2012, Holt was serving as President of the league. Now, over a decade later, he steps into a leadership role with the same club as it prepares for its next phase.
In his new position, Holt will oversee both the business and sporting sides of the organization. That includes long-term strategy, day-to-day operations, and working closely with ownership and technical staff on roster development and overall direction.
Ownership made it clear this is about experience and perspective.
Holt has seen the USL from multiple angles. During his time as league president, he helped guide a period of major expansion and growth. More recently, he’s worked at the club level, including a stint with Orlando City SC during its early MLS years, where he played a role in launching both Orlando Pride and Orlando City B.
His most notable club success came with San Antonio FC.
As Managing Director, Holt oversaw both business and sporting operations and helped turn San Antonio into one of the league’s strongest organizations. In 2022, the club won both the Players’ Shield and the USL Championship title, something Sacramento has been chasing in recent seasons.
That track record is likely a big part of why Republic FC made this move now.
The club isn’t starting from scratch. Sacramento has been one of the more consistent teams in the USL, regularly competing near the top of the Western Conference. But consistency hasn’t always translated into trophies, and there’s a sense that the club is trying to take another step forward.
Holt’s experience managing both sides of a club could play a role in that.
There’s also the bigger picture to consider. With plans for a downtown stadium still part of the long-term vision and the USL continuing to evolve, Republic FC is entering an important stretch. This hire puts someone in place who understands both the league’s structure and what it takes to build a sustainable, competitive organization.
Holt acknowledged the significance of the moment in his opening remarks, calling it a “full-circle” opportunity and pointing to the club’s supporters and identity as key reasons for taking the role.
That identity has been one of Sacramento’s strengths since day one.
Now, the focus shifts to what comes next and whether this move can help push Republic FC from a consistently strong side into one that finishes the job.
