Republic FC Acquire Forward Mayele Malango From Monterey Bay FC
Sacramento Republic FC announced today that the club has acquired forward Mayele Malango from Monterey Bay FC via transfer. Malango has signed a new contract with Republic FC.
Head coach Neill Collins highlighted Malango’s physical profile and versatility as key elements of the signing.
“Mayele is a dynamic attacker with a diverse and impressive journey through multiple levels of U.S. soccer,” Collins said. “His pace, strength and finishing ability give us more options in the final third, and we’re excited to integrate him into our system.”
Malango, 28, joins Sacramento after spending the 2025 season with Monterey Bay FC, where he made 29 appearances across league and cup play, recording five goals and two assists. He scored Monterey Bay’s first goal of the season and earned a USL Championship Team of the Week honor for a standout performance against Oakland Roots.
His professional career in the United States began in 2020 with New England Revolution II, where he made 14 appearances. In 2021, he signed with New Amsterdam FC in the National Independent Soccer Association and scored nine goals in 14 matches, earning All-League First Team honors. He remained in NISA in 2022 with Albion San Diego, scoring three goals in 20 appearances and helping the club reach the league championship final.
From 2023 to 2024, Malango played for Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in USL League One, where he recorded 12 goals and five assists across 68 appearances. His move to Monterey Bay in 2025 marked his first full season in the USL Championship prior to joining Sacramento.
Malango has also begun to feature at the international level. He earned his first call-up to the Malawi national team in September 2025 for World Cup qualifiers, registering an assist in his debut. He later scored his first international goal in a friendly against Lesotho on November 18.
Malango said he is eager to begin his time in Sacramento.
“I would like to thank God for this opportunity, and also thanks to all the coaching staff and front office members for believing in me, and for making this transfer to happen,” Malango said. “I’m super excited to join the team and can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success on and off the field.”
Malango will be available for selection once league and federation approval is finalized.
